50th Anniversary
For 50 years, the Haverford Hawks Ice Hockey club has been promoting and organizing youth ice hockey in Delaware and Montgomery counties. Through the sport of ice hockey, “the Hawks” are one of the last community based travel ice hockey clubs in the region consisting of teams in age groups ranging from 6 years old up to 18 years. We have taught not only hockey skills but respect for peers, coaches, officials and community through our annual fundraiser.
Our players throughout the years have learned sportsmanship, promoted physical and emotional health, and provided them to participate in a team sport that we at the Haverford Hawks think is the best sport there is - ice hockey.
On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Hawks celebrated these amazing 50 years as an ice hockey club with a ceremony at 6 pm prior to two marquee games between our oldest teams. The Haverford Hawks 16U AA team played Ashburn Xtreme (VA) at 6:35 pm and won 7-1. Our 18U A team played Chester County Skating Club (PA) and won 5-2. As part of these games, we had a special announcer, Matt Berman, calling these games.
In addition, the Skatium was decorated with alumni jerseys and posters celebrating players made by their families.
Over the 50 years, we have developed a great Alumni base. Currently, 50% of our coaches are Hawks alums. We have also invited Alums that are active service members to help honor our country and club as well as the Township of Haverford Commissioners and Administration. Without the Township, we would not be able to call the Skatium our home since inception.
It was a great evening and we can't wait for what the next 50 years brings to our incredible Hawks program!
