2023-24 Election of Fundraising Chair, Registrar and Treasurer

Candidates for Fundraising Chair

Bob Frey

Bio

Hello Hawks Families,

My name is Bob Frey and I am running for the Fundraiser Position within the Haverford Hawks.  For those who don’t know me, my son Bobby is currently a second year 14U player.  Bobby started with the Hawks as a second-year squirt four years ago.  During that season, I was asked to participate as a chair member for the Hawks Finland Exchange.  During my time as a Finland Chair member, we have done many fundraisers to help keep the cost of the Finland Exchange home and away tournaments at a minimum for the Hawks players participating.  I have been directly involved in organizing fundraising such as corporate sponsorships, cake sales, online Facebook raffles, restaurant nights out, bag bingo, guest bartending, beef and beers plus many other fundraising efforts.  From this fundraising effort, we are getting ready to send the largest Hawks player group to Finland for a fraction of the total cost of the trip.

During my time as a Hawks parent, besides being a Finland Chair I have been the team manager the last three years and the last two years I have jumped in and helped behind the bench.  I currently serve or have served on many boards in different clubs where fundraising has taken place.  Some of the boards range from school district hockey to youth baseball/softball.

I truly enjoy the time committed to the Hawks organization.  I am asking you to please consider me for the board position of fundraiser.  It is my desire to see the club flourish for those Hawks families from Atoms to 18U.

Thanks,
Bob Frey

Fundraising Chair for Haverford Hawks

Our family has been involved with Haverford Hawks for 3 seasons.  Our son Xavier started as an Atom in 2020 and is now wrapping up his second year as a Mite.  He also plays with the Haverford Fords elementary league.  He lives for hockey!  My husband also plays Shinny at the Skatium and in an adult rec league at IceWorks.  While they have tried to get me on the ice, I prefer to show my support from the stands and now by volunteering with the Hawks.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Bellarmine University and earned my MBA from Indiana University.  I worked for GE Appliances from 1998 to 2014 in Louisville, KY as a Sales and Marketing leader with over twenty years of experience in the commercial/consumer channels, managing a portfolio that ranged between $10M-28M. I have expertise in account and people management, digital marketing, call center management, sales training, merchandising/marketing management, and concept-to-commercial launch project management. I am certified as a Black Belt in Six Sigma. Additionally, I led inclusivity groups and volunteered within the community - Junior Achievement mainly and GE volunteer projects.

While at GE, in 2011 and 2012, I was the campaign manager for our Employee Contribution Fund that donated $1.65M to the Metro United Way.

From 2014 to 2017, I worked for BrightView, the nation’s leading commercial landscape company.  I was a Director of National Accounts, managing the largest single customer portfolio in the company, a $17M landscape, snow removal and sweep contract.

After leaving the corporate world in 2017, I worked for Orangetheory Fitness as Human Resources Manager and certified personal trainer coaching classes.  While at Orange Theory, I organized private classes for non-profits and members to build engagement in community with members and opportunity for new member sales; there were 2 classes in 2018 and 5 classes in 2019.  I was also the lead on raising money for a non-profit called Augie’s Quest where proceeds went to help curing ALS/Lou’s Gehrigs disease.  I organized silent auctions and raffles - we asked our members to donate items such as a tour of a local news station, a firetruck ride to school from our local fire department, gift cards to restaurants, and a 10 year old bottle of Pappy Van Winkle.  A favorite amongst the members was “Torture the Coach” buying poker chips for burpees, running, rowing, pushups, etc and then at the end each coach had to complete what was in their fish bowl of chips.  In 2018, we raised almost $20K (my studio was 2nd in the country) and in 2019, we finished at $11K.

Upon moving to Philadelphia, I’m now a full-time mom and now Chief Home Officer at our residence.

I am excited by the prospect of joining the Haverford Hawks Board by being the Fundraiser Chair.  Our Mite Red team was excited about raising money for sled hockey - the team raised the most amount of money, enough for 2 sleds!  I look forward to continuing this and/or finding another deserving group where our club teams can help benefit as well as raising money for the Finland Exchange.  My son is already excited about participating.  Our family has donated to the teams going because we know it is important to pay it forward - when it is Xavier’s turn, we want the players behind him to do the same.

Our family believes in giving, whether it is our time, effort or money.  Since moving here, we’ve gotten more involved with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, benefiting pediatric cancer - this included participating in their annual Frozen Lemonade charity hockey tournament.  We all have something to gain from helping others and I want to put my time and effort into helping this amazing hockey organization.

Candidates for Treasurer

Jen Viera

Bio

My name is Jen Vieira and I have been the Haverford Hawks Treasurer for the past six seasons.

I'm a wife and mother of three kids, two boys and one girl. My two boys have been playing with the Haverford Hawks since they were five years old and started in the Atoms program. My sons are now 17 and 15 and both play on the 16U teams.

I work full time in the Corporate Accounting department at Willis Towers Watson as the North America Region Accounting Manager. My work experience is accounting and finance and I have applied this to the Haverford Hawks Treasurer position.

The history and knowledge that I have gained as the Treasurer over the past six seasons has been important when preparing the budget and expense analysis, the monthly financial statements and the annual tax return information.

Since I became the Treasurer, I have worked with the other Hawks Board members to improve the finances, manage the expenses and help build the club to be in a positive position financially. I helped with making the tuition payment process easier for parents with the online payments. This process has improved the tuition payments and collections tremendously. I have a great working relationship with the other Hawks Board members, the managers, the coaches and the Finland Exchange chairs.

I'm dedicated to the role and responsibilities as the Treasurer. When I decided to submit a statement to become the Treasurer six years ago, it was because I wanted to help the club. The Treasurer position was the best fit for me. I would like to continue to help and make improvements for the club as the Treasurer and I hope you'll vote for me. Thank you!

Thanks,
Jen
